Our Guardian Program

Here at Graysville Goldens we believe all of our dogs deserve a loving family and home. As we are retiring some of our dogs from our breeding program we are looking to place select puppies into “guardian homes”.

Our new guardian program is an exchange program which involves Graysville Goldens’ breeding dogs and guardian families. Our future breeding dogs will be the pick of the litter and will be carefully chosen to meet our standards. Our perspective breeding dogs will be kept intact for a certain amount of years for the purpose of breeding. We want all of our dogs to have a normal life, in a loving family and home setting. We would like to place our prospective breeding dogs into a guardian home which is responsible for giving our dogs a safe, loving, forever home.

The chosen guardian families are required to pay a deposit on their dog which will be returned when the dog is released from our breeding program. This will be a relationship between Graysville Goldens and our guardian homes, a commitment from both sides. Once the dog has been released from our breeding program they will be neutered or spayed at the owners expense and will continue to live their lives in their forever home. Females in our breeding program will come to our home for whelping and until her puppies are weaned and off to their forever homes! This is roughy 10 weeks of the year, plus breeding or AI appointments. While the dog is in the guardian program there is also an opportunity to keep one of your dog’s puppies as a pet!

If you are interested in becoming a guardian home, please see our requirements for guardian homes below:

  • Must have the dog live in the home as a part of your family

  • Live within 1 hour from Graysville, MB or Winnipeg

  • A fenced yard depending on where you live

  • A non-smoking home

  • Provide training for basic commands and good behaviour as any dog should have

  • Feed the dog a quality food that is recommended by us and our vet, and keep the dog a healthy weight

  • All expenses related to breeding, routine vaccinations and dewormings are covered by the breeder. Tick and Flea treatments, heartworm medication and other seasonal vet treatments will be covered by the guardian. Treatment for minor health issues and general care are at the expense of the guardian.

  • Must be willing to bring the dog to the breeder as needed or make arrangements for pick up for things such as breeding, health testing, ultrasounds, etc

  • Must provide regular routine veterinary care as needed

In 2022, we will be looking for guardian families for 2 standard poodle girls from Berkley’s spring litter and 2 purebred golden retriever females from Olive’s fall litter.
